August 14, 1945, Emperor Hirohito of Japan accepted the terms of the
Potsdam Declaration. The Potsdam Declaration spelled out the terms
of Japan's surrender in World War II. On, August 15, 1945, Emperor
Hirohito announced Japan's surrender on the radio. In the United
States this day is known as V-J Day (Victory in Japan).
