Simulated Mars Mission By Nancy Houser Applications are now being taken by the European Space Agency (ESA) for volunteers interested in making a simulated trip to Mars. The experiment is being conducted by the Russian Institute of Biomedical Problems and is planned for the duration of 520 days. Mars500 will replicate the anticipated conditions encountered on a spaceflight to the red planet, including watching the Earth disappear in the distance, and experiencing the 40 minutes required for transmission of signals between the Earth and the spacecraft.
Edgar Rice Burroughs' Mars And Venus - A Comparison Of Two Worlds
By Robert Gibson
Apart from Tarzan, Barsoom (Mars) is ERB's most famous creation. His wonderful
portrayal of a dying planet of warring city-states, with all its detailed and
colourful depiction of varied flora, fauna, races, cultures, religions and
customs, has an unsurpassed ease of touch. Many authors have invented worlds
with more realism, intelligence and consistency of detail, but none with such
dreamy lightness of heart. It is as if it all poured from him in a trance.
Rover Stuck on Mars? By Lance Winslow NASA scientists had to solve a relatively common problem hear on Earth with the Rover on Mars. What do you do when you are stuck in the sand? Anyone who has ever raced off road or owned a 4X4, dune buggy or ATV understands these issues. There are many trucks to getting a vehicles unstuck from the sand. The scientists were able to get unstuck. Now then let’s discuss this issue of Mars or Planetary exploration, because I fear that this is only one common problem we will face as we start to explore other worlds.
Mars and Earth Climate and Landscape By Lance Winslow In our study of our own
Earth we have found patterns in erosion and the landscape made from years of
runoff. Anyone who has ever looked at the landscape from a vantage point can see
the patterns and the similarities. Is there such a thing as patterns of erosion?
Have we found similar patterns here on Earth as we have on the surface of Mars?
Actually we have.
Phoenix Mars Mission By Nancy Houser Building on the achievements of the Mars
Pathfinder, the lessons learned by the failure of the Mars Polar Lander and the
success of the Mars Odyssey in discovering water on the planet, the upcoming
Phoenix Mars Mission is rising to the challenge of Mars exploration. With a
launch date of August 3, 2007, 5:35 a.m. EDT, the start of a launch window of 20
days, the flight will be the first in the NASA “Scout Program”. After journeying
171 million miles the Phoenix is scheduled make a powered descent to the
planet’s surface on May 25, 2008.
