The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is based on
the book by C.S. Lewis. The movie tells the story of the four Pevensie children,
Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, brothers and sisters who have been uprooted from
their home in London because of air bomb raids during World War II. They are
sent to Professor Kirke's home in the country. While playing hide and seek in
the Professor's home, Lucy discovers a magical wardrobe that leads to the
mystical land of Narnia. At first, Lucy's brothers and sister do not believe
her, but then they are able to go through the wardrobe into Narnia as well. They
meet all sorts of creatures including a faun named Mr. Tumnus, talking beavers,
who tell them about Aslan, the great lion, and the prophecy that tells of two
daughters of Eve and two sons of Adam that will come to rule Narnia. The Beavers
help the Pevensie children escape from the White Witch, who wants to kill them
in order to keep the prophecy from coming true so that she can rule Narnia.
Edmund, however, has been captivated and captured by the White Witch and Aslan
must sacrifice himself in order to get Edmund back.
